On March 1, 2023, within the framework of a series of guest lectures by stakeholders for higher education students “Industrial Biotechnology”, the head of the oncology department of Pfizer, Oleksandr Kayota, was invited to give a lecture “The market of biological medicines and biosimilars”.

The lecture was also attended by graduates of the educational programs “Biotechnology”, “Pharmacy” and “Technology of pharmaceutical preparations”.

Mr. Oleksandr talked about the current trends in the market of biological medicines, current developments in this segment and directions of development in Ukraine. In his report, the lecturer emphasized the possibilities and extraordinary potential of biotechnology in the field of health care, described the main stages of the biological production process and its features, which are determined by the complexity of the structure and functions of biomolecules.

In the second part, the lecturer spoke about the differences in the development of biosimilars and original biological molecules, about reverse engineering of innovative recombinant proteins for the development of biosimilars, biosimilarity assessment and pharmacovigilance of this group of biological drugs.
